Why Your Garbage Disposal Is Leaking and How to Fix It

LEAK FROM THE TOP (SINK FLANGE)
Water pooling around the top of the disposal where it meets the sink? The plumber's putty seal has failed. This is the most common leak — and usually means the disposal needs to be removed, cleaned, and re-mounted with fresh putty.
DIY: possible if you're comfortable removing the unit. Pro fix: $99 if no other issues.
LEAK FROM THE SIDE (DISHWASHER CONNECTION)
Leaking from the side port? The dishwasher hose clamp is loose, or the gasket has failed. Tighten the clamp first. If that doesn't fix it, the gasket needs replacement.
LEAK FROM THE BOTTOM (BAD NEWS)
Water dripping from the bottom housing means the internal seals have failed — water is leaking through the motor. The disposal is done. Replacement is the only option ($249 flat for a new unit installed).
