Why I Started a Garbage Disposal Repair Company in Los Angeles

Why I Started a Garbage Disposal Repair Company in Los Angeles

Hello. I'd like to tell you what inspired me to start a company that does exactly one thing: repair, replace, and install garbage disposals across Los Angeles. Believe it or not, money wasn't the main reason. What motivated me were a few very simple goals — and a moment I kept seeing under people's sinks.

    FOUR YEARS AS A HANDYMAN

For the past four years, I worked as a handyman all over Los Angeles. On average, two or three times a week I was repairing or replacing garbage disposals — in Glendale, Pasadena, Burbank, Studio City, Encino, Central LA, and everywhere in between. And I genuinely enjoyed doing it.

Most handymen treat a disposal as just another item on the list. I started to look forward to those calls. There's something satisfying about an appliance that most people ignore until it fails, and then — in under an hour — you can make it run like new again.

THE MOMENT I REALIZED THIS MATTERED

Over time, I started noticing something interesting. For many people, a broken garbage disposal wasn't just another household issue. It was the final straw.

Of course, that's just an expression, but you could see the frustration on their faces. It was as if life was already throwing enough challenges at them, and then suddenly — this happened. A garbage disposal. Who would've thought?

Their daily routine came to a screeching halt. Everything had been running like a well-oiled machine — work, errands, family, responsibilities — until suddenly... boom. The lights went out. I often watched people trying to reorganize their thoughts, searching for a solution. Their minds were changing course like massive oil tankers — slowly trying to figure out who to call, what to do, and how to solve the problem as quickly as possible.

That's when I realized something. This is exactly what I want to do.

BRINGING A CHERRY BLOSSOM INTO THE DESERT

I want to be the person who brings a cherry blossom tree into the middle of the desert — and waters it. It may sound poetic, but that's honestly how it feels to me.

There is something incredibly satisfying about seeing the moment a garbage disposal comes back to life. The motor starts spinning again, the customer smiles with relief, and I can almost see them mentally sinking back into their comfortable chair, saying, 'Thank you.' That feeling is worth a lot.

It's not about the unit. It's about restoring the rhythm of someone's day. A working kitchen sink is a small thing — until it stops working. Then it becomes the only thing.

    BECOMING A TRUE SPECIALIST

The second reason is much simpler. I want to become a true specialist in a very specific field. I enjoy mastering one craft and understanding every detail of it. Instead of trying to know a little about everything, I'd rather know everything about one thing — and be someone people can truly rely on.

Garbage disposals are more interesting than people think. The motor, the grind ring, the impeller plates, the seals, the mounting assembly, the reset switch, the dishwasher hookup — every part has a failure mode, and every failure mode has a right way to fix it. After 500+ jobs, I still learn something new on nearly every call.

    WHAT WE DO NOW

Today, we offer mobile, on-site garbage disposal repair, replacement, and installation across Los Angeles and the surrounding areas. We come to you, diagnose the problem on-site, and give you an honest recommendation before any work begins.

Our pricing is straightforward: $75 for travel and diagnostics, a flat $99 for on-site repairs that don't require a full replacement (charged on top of the $75), and $249 flat labor for a complete garbage disposal replacement. Same-day service is available, and every replacement comes with a 1-year workmanship warranty.

    A SIMPLE THOUGHT

If, for some strange and completely unexpected reason, your garbage disposal throws your day off balance and makes your eye start twitching, I'd be happy to be the person who gets everything working again — and helps you get back into that comfortable chair with a smile on your face.

Thank you for reading, and I'll see you in the next story.
