Emergency garbage disposal repair is what we do when the situation can't wait until tomorrow: water pouring out of the cabinet, sink completely backed up and won't drain, disposal smoking or sparking, or a dead unit right before Thanksgiving dinner. These calls get pushed to the front of the schedule — we re-route the day and get on-site as fast as we can reach you.
The reality of an emergency disposal call is that most of them are actually two problems stacked on top of each other. The disposal itself has an issue (jam, seal failure, electrical fault), and that issue has caused a secondary problem (flood, backup, tripped circuit). We diagnose both, stop the active damage first (turn off water, kill the circuit, contain the leak), then fix the root cause. Most emergency jobs finish in 60–90 minutes once we're on-site — and most of them do get fixed same-day rather than needing a second visit.

Call it an emergency when: water is actively pooling in the sink cabinet or dripping onto the floor and you can't stop it; the sink is backed up and won't drain (dishwasher is unusable); the disposal is smoking, sparking, or throwing burning smell; a circuit keeps tripping every time you try to reset it; you have a dinner, event, or short-term rental guest arriving and the kitchen is unusable; or you just had a major event (party, holiday, big cooking session) that overwhelmed the disposal and now everything's stuck.
If the disposal isn't working but there's no active leak, no backup, and no urgent time pressure, a standard same-day repair booking is usually enough — you don't need to pay for emergency priority. But if any of the situations above apply, tell us it's urgent when you call and we'll get to you first. There's no separate emergency fee — pricing is the same $75 diagnostic and $99 on-site repair, we just prioritize the routing.
First move: turn off the water supply at the wall shutoffs under the sink. If leak is from the disposal, kill the circuit at the breaker. We arrive, containsecond damage, diagnose whether the leak is flange, dishwasher inlet, discharge tube, or the disposal shell itself. Shell leak = replacement. Everything else = same-day repair.
Water sits in the sink and won't go down. Often the disposal is jammed and the blockage has cascaded downstream. We clear the disposal jam first, then check the P-trap and drain arm for accumulated debris. If the whole drain is clogged past the disposal, that's a drain-cleaning call in addition to the disposal fix.
Immediately kill the circuit at the breaker. Do NOT try to run the disposal again. Cause is usually a locked motor drawing too much current, a shorted winding, or a fault in the power cord. We diagnose whether it's repairable (usually not, at this point) or needs replacement. Replacement in most cases.
Every time you flip the switch or reset the breaker, it trips again within seconds. Usually a short in the disposal windings, a bad wall switch, or a corroded outlet under the sink. We isolate the fault and either repair the electrical side or replace the disposal, depending on what's shorted.
Common Thanksgiving/Christmas/party call: disposal died the day before, kitchen is unusable, guests arriving. We push these to the front of the schedule. Most get fixed or replaced same-day so the event goes forward. Book as early as you can — Thanksgiving morning is our single busiest window of the year.
Property manager or host calls: guest checked out, next guest arrives in a few hours, disposal is broken. We prioritize turnover calls and text photos of the finished repair to the manager so the check-in goes smoothly.

Issue: Day before Thanksgiving — disposal dead, sink backed up, 12 guests arriving next day.
Fix: On-site within 3 hours. Diagnosed cracked internal seal, motor water-damaged. Swapped for an Evolution Compact 3/4 HP, cleared the downstream P-trap that had backed up. Kitchen fully working by 4 p.m. Thanksgiving morning went off clean.

Issue: 8 a.m. call — cabinet flooding, water on the kitchen floor. Homeowner had turned off water at wall.
