In older WeHo garden apartments the disposal is usually a 1/3 HP or 1/2 HP Badger installed decades ago and swapped every 5–8 years by whichever handyman the building uses. The drain lines are often 1.5" ABS running into a common stack, which means one apartment's disposal problem can create backup issues two units up or down. When we diagnose a WeHo apartment disposal that clogs repeatedly, we always ask whether neighbors are having sink problems too.
Condo kitchens along the Sunset Strip and Doheny are the opposite problem — modern remodels with 3/4 HP compact disposals shoehorned into cabinets designed for a garbage can, tied into hard-wired air switches on the countertop. Failures here are usually electrical (the air switch or the outlet-to-switch relay) rather than mechanical.
Modern WeHo condos frequently use a button air switch on top of the counter instead of a wall toggle. When the disposal stops working it's often the pneumatic relay under the sink, not the disposal itself. We swap the relay and test — usually 25 minutes.
Common in 1960s garden apartments off Fairfax. Disposal spins fine but the sink still fills. Root cause is the shared stack, not your unit. We diagnose, tell you honestly, and point you to the building's plumber.
Norma Triangle mid-century remodels often use farmhouse or shallow bar sinks that put pressure on the disposal flange. We re-bed and re-torque with proper putty and check for cabinet water damage.
Bosch and Miele dishwashers common in WeHo condos use a smaller drain hose than U.S. disposals expect. We fit the correct step-adapter and clear any inlet knockout that was missed at install.
Bones, olive pits, cocktail garnishes — the classic Sunset Strip disposal jam. We free it from below, reset the overload, done in 20 minutes.
Many WeHo cabinets can't fit a full-size 3/4 HP. We recommend the InSinkErator Evolution Compact or the Waste King L-2600 for tight installs and always measure before promising a fit.
