    About Waste King in LA

Waste King disposals are known for two things: fast 2,700–2,800 RPM motors (vs. 1,725 RPM on most InSinkErator units) and a splash-mount collar that swaps out in 15 minutes when the unit dies.

We repair and replace every Waste King line still in service across Los Angeles: the Legend series (L-1001, L-2600, L-3200, L-8000), the Knight series, the Waste King Classic 2600, and the entry-level A1SPC. Older Legend and Knight units from the 2000s are still very much in circulation.

Because Waste King uses a splash-mount system (three bolts and a snap ring — no EZ-Mount cassette), swapping a dead Waste King is usually faster than swapping an InSinkErator. We can typically be in and out in under an hour.

    Common Problems

Waste King Issues We See Every Week

Motor spins freely but grind is weak

The permanent-magnet motor in Waste King units is fast but not always strong. Worn impellers or a slightly warped grind ring will make the unit sound normal but pass food through half-ground. Usually a replacement conversation, not a repair.

    Won't start — no hum

Most commonly a failed start capacitor or a tripped internal overload. Reset first, then meter. If the motor windings test open, it's replacement time.

    Leaking from the mount collar

Waste King splash-mount collars use a rubber gasket that hardens over 8+ years. Replaceable — we pull the unit, install a new gasket and snap ring, and reinstall. Under $200 all-in for most jobs.

    Rattling or metallic ringing

Usually a loose grinding element or debris trapped between the impeller and grind ring. We open the chamber from the top, clear it, and inspect for damage.

Water backs up into the sink

Almost always a clog past the disposal in the P-trap or branch drain — not a disposal problem. We diagnose whether it's the unit or the plumbing before you spend money on a new disposal.

    Why Us

Why We're Set Up For Waste King

    • Waste King's splash-mount system is fast — most swaps take under 45 minutes on the truck.
    • We carry replacement mount collars and gaskets so leaks at the flange are a same-visit fix.
    • We understand the difference between a repairable Waste King and one that's economically done — and we'll tell you honestly which yours is.
    • Waste King's motors are permanent-magnet — different diagnostic approach than InSinkErator's induction motors. We're set up for both.
    • We can pick up any current Waste King model same-day from Home Depot or Lowe's locations in Burbank, Panorama City, Van Nuys, or Central LA.
    LA-Specific

What's Different About Waste King In Los Angeles

Waste King units are popular in LA rentals because the L-1001 and L-2600 are inexpensive and the mount system makes landlord-tenant turnover easy. If you own a rental in Glendale, Van Nuys, or Central LA and need a quick swap between tenants, we can typically get to you the same day.

The 2,800 RPM motor in Waste King units is more sensitive to voltage sags than InSinkErator's slower motor. If you've had recurring 'trips the breaker' complaints on a Waste King, the issue may not be the disposal — it may be shared-circuit loading common in older LA homes.
