Burbank's municipal water is on the harder side (Burbank Water & Power averages around 250–350 ppm depending on the season), and that hardness matters for disposal life. Hard water accelerates scale on the grinding chamber's shredder ring and dulls the impellers. In a Rancho District ranch home where a family has been running the same InSinkErator Badger 5 since 2011, we routinely see the impellers pitted from mineral wear, not from what got shoved down the sink.

Sign of an internal short or overheating. Usually the motor winding is damaged. Replacement, not repair.

Downtown Burbank
Issue: 2004 condo near San Fernando Blvd — disposal humming, no spin, tripped the reset three times.
Fix: Jam from a corn cob fragment. Freed the impellers, cleared the debris, tested. 20 minutes, cheapest kind of visit.
Media District
Issue: Small-lot rental near the Warner Bros lot — disposal working but dishwasher flooding every cycle.
Fix: The original installer had never removed the dishwasher inlet knockout plug. Punched it out, cleared the line, verified drain. 40 minutes on-site.
